The insights gained from last year’s Britain's Most Admired Companies study have set a solid foundation for the 2024 study, which launches today. The upcoming study aims to build on the findings from 2023 by further exploring perceptions of resilience and the adaptations businesses have made in response to market uncertainties, and perhaps now, with early shoots of renewed optimism.
The 2023 edition of Britain's Most Admired Companies study highlights the resilience and sustainable growth of UK businesses in a competitive landscape. Sponsored by the London Stock Exchange and conducted by Echo Research, the study analysed 251 firms across 28 sectors, based on feedback from more than 300 C-suite executives, financial analysts, and industry experts. The by-invitation-only respondents benchmark those they follow closely across 13 key reputational criteria, from quality of products and financial soundness to innovation, and weigh in on leadership considerations.
Legal & General emerged as Britain's Most Admired Company for the second consecutive year, reflecting its strong performance and commitment to delivering positive outcomes for society, customers, and shareholders. Other top companies included AstraZeneca, ARUP, Total SE, Ashtead Group, Diageo, and Next.
The study underscored the importance of long-term value potential, leadership, strategic adaptability, and a resilient organisational culture as critical factors for success amidst economic and geopolitical uncertainties. Companies like Octopus Energy and SSE showed remarkable advancements in their respective sectors, demonstrating the dynamic nature of corporate reputation in the UK.
Entering its 34th consecutive year, Britain’s Most Admired Companies is the country’s longest-running and most comprehensive assessment of corporate reputation across the FTSE. Participants made up of C-suite executives and industry experts, will again contribute their perspectives, ensuring that the study reflects current trends current trends, challenges and opportunities faced by Britain's leading companies.
